The Ponds For Kids build is completed at Saddle Brook High School located in Saddle Brook, NJ. The young guys and gals worked hard to make this dream a reality!
The completed project is a 16’ x 21’ pond with a 4’ long stream, fish cave, ‘upwell’ wetlands filtration, a Aquascape 6000 series BioFalls and Signature series skimmer. Some of the boulders that we used to create this feature weighed in at 700 lbs! The students and teachers moved a total of 17 Tons of boulders, 6 yards of Topsoil and 6 Tons of riverstone. They had to move all the material through a school hallway out to the courtyard.
I would also like to acknowledge the help of the following teachers – Mrs. Dunlap, Mrs. Altamura, and Mr. Hill for their efforts in bring nature back into education. They have done a fantastic job in obtaining not only support but the funds to create a living eco-system in the school’s courtyard. I believe that with dedicated teachers like this teaching our children about ecology and the enviroment our children’s futures are headed in the right direction.
To all the staff and students involved in bringing this project into reality – THANK YOU for allowing me to be a part of this project. It was a honor working with all of you.
- Pete, the NJ Pond Guy
